Golfers club together for a good cause
A charity golf day organised by Onward has raised £250 for male suicide-prevention charity CALM.
Staff from Onward braved torrential rain to take part in the fundraising event at Leyland Golf Club earlier this month.
As well as donations from those who played, the proceeds were also boosted by a well-supported raffle, with prizes donated by some of Onward’s contractors.
Leyland Golf Club also chipped in with a prize for the raffle – a free round of golf for four people – and even agreed to offer discounted green fees on the day so that more money could go to charity.
Event organiser Allan Eveleigh, neighbourhood delivery manager at Onward, said: “The weather was abysmal but we still had a great time and managed to raise lots of money for our chosen charity.
“Given the success of the event and the feedback from those who took part, we hope to arrange similar events in the near future and build on the fantastic start we’ve made to support such a deserving cause.
“We’d like to thank Leyland Golf Club for hosting us and really looking after us on the day.”
CALM is the only UK-wide charity dedicated to stopping male suicide, and its helpline and webchat alone directly prevented 675 suicides in 2018.
