Hattersley Christmas Extravaganza
Hattersley’s Christmas light switch on took place last Friday (6 Dec) with HUNDREDS turning out for the annual community event, marking the start of the holiday season.
Those attending could pick up festive treats from Hattersley’s very own Christmas markets.
Where inside, food stalls provided winter warming refreshments, including hot potato hash and non-alcoholic mulled wine.
Free family activities were also on offer, including Christmas craft making.
And Santa was also in attendance, much to the children’s delight.
The special event was organised by Onward Homes, in partnership with TMBC and local community groups. With support from National Literacy Trust, Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Fortem.
The festivities were topped off with live musical performances from Discovery Academy, Pinfold Primary School and Hattersley Brass Band. As well as performances from St James Primary Christmas Cheerleaders and the local air cadets, While the lights were officially switched on by Civic Mayor Cllr Leigh Drennan.
Sam Powers, Social Investment Specialist, who helped organise the event, said: “This is a marvellous example of what a community can achieve when everyone works together. The support given to ensure the success of this event has been second to none, and it has been truly heart-warming to see people generously offer up their time and resources to make this happen”
Reverend Denise Hayes, of St Barnabas Church, said: “Excellent community evening on Friday, really good atmosphere. Thank you for making it possible and for all your hard work”.
